Caltech Dedicates Science Center
October 23, 2001
Pasadena Star-News

"PASADENA -- A dedication ceremony was held Monday for a science center at Caltech that will be responsible for all aspects of operation for the Space Infrared Telescope Facility. The facility, SIRTF for short, is set for launch next year and will join the Hubble Space Telescope and the Chandra X-Ray Observatory in space. It is the last of NASA's four "Great Observatories" designed to crack the mysteries of the cosmos. Each of the observatories looks at different kinds of light along the electromagnetic spectrum, which ranges from the visible to the infrared, according to Caltech. The SIRTF observatory will seek infrared light, filling an important gap in wavelength coverage."
